Rights & Concerns

How to ask questions, raise a concern and get information about service recipient rights.

People receiving services have rights, including the right to receive information in a way they can understand and to ask questions about their services. Sunny provides the applicable rights notice and agency procedures during intake and service initiation.

If you have a question or concern

  1. Tell the staff member or supervisor what happened and what you would like clarified or changed.
  2. Ask for the agency grievance or complaint process if the concern is not resolved.
  3. Ask your case manager or support coordinator for help if you want another person involved.
  4. You may also contact the applicable state agency if you believe rights were violated.
Emergency situations: The website and general office contact methods are not emergency-response services. For an immediate emergency, call 911 or the appropriate emergency resource.

Reporting suspected maltreatment

Minnesota has a statewide reporting system for suspected maltreatment of vulnerable adults and of minors. Staff receive training on their reporting responsibilities. Anyone with a concern may report directly to the Minnesota Adult Abuse Reporting Center or the appropriate county agency.
